Six years after coming out as both trans and conservative, Caitlyn Jenner has made headlines again by throwing her hat into the Newsom recall election ring for Governor of California.

Jenner is far and above the most high profile Republican candidate for office since Donald Trump, whom she supported in 2016 (remember when he offered her to use whichever bathroom of her choice at Trump Tower?) but grew frustrated with during his presidency and has warmed back up to since. In fact, she’s even hired his former campaign manager, Brad Parscale, to run her campaign.

Her campaign got off to an interesting start with a Hannity interview, the most memorable line being that a friend at a nearby private plane hangar is moving to Sedona because of the homelessness and tax problems in California.

Another campaign misstep was a convoluted answer about immigration, including that famous “pathway to citizenship” phrase politicians love to use regarding amnesty.

Stumbles aside, Jenner (not Kris!) has honed in on a crucial issue with California voters – the excessive, encompassing lockdowns which crippled the state during 2020 and well into 2021. Jenner seems to be the first national Republican politician to get close enough to advocating for a moratorium on future lockdowns, a position more national Republicans should consider accepting.

Another surprisingly good answer was the one on trans athletes competing in girl’s sports. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone more qualified to speak on this question, and predictably, the Left is furious.

We do a great deal of criticism on the Right when it comes to our leaders because we have high expectations – plus, they give us plenty of reasons to be critical.

With that criticism should come support when people on the Right get it right. Doesn’t happen often, and it should be appreciated as the Overton window shifting in the right direction.

plus the MERCH

Six years ago, I called Caitlyn Jenner a future conservative icon due to her unabashed support of limited government and constitutional rights at a time when it was deeply unpopular. It remains to be seen how the campaign rolls out, but regardless of outcome, it’s sure to be a wild ride.
